Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos: The Plans Before the Venice Wedding

The wedding plans in 2023
Lauren Sánchez knew she'd take Jeff Bezos's surname. The wedding itself was still a collection of decisions to make when she spoke to Vogue for a profile published in November 2023.

They'd become engaged that May. After dinner aboard Bezos's yacht, Koru, he left a pink diamond ring under her pillow. Sánchez found it as she was getting ready for bed. By the time of the interview, she could tell that proposal story, but she couldn't yet give a settled account of the ceremony they wanted.

How big would it be? Would they marry overseas? Those questions were still open, and so was the dress. Sánchez named Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana and Valentino among the designers she liked. Those were preferences she shared during the planning, not an announcement that one of them had been chosen to make her wedding gown.

Bezos had a shorter answer about his own involvement in the arrangements: “Do I look that dumb?”

Sánchez also talked about becoming his wife in terms that went beyond the wedding. She described the responsibilities and opportunities of their shared life. She wasn't announcing a job at one of his companies or a new corporate title. Her comments concerned their marriage and what they could do together.

For his part, Bezos described her sensitivity and her instincts with people. He said she encouraged him to stay in contact with his children and parents, a more everyday account of their relationship than the proposal aboard Koru.

Read in its original setting, the interview catches Sánchez between the engagement and the wedding, discussing a surname she'd decided on alongside plans she hadn't finished. These were her answers in 2023, before their June 2025 marriage in Venice.
What happened in 2025

Before Lauren Sánchez married Jeff Bezos in Venice, she flew with five other women on Blue Origin's NS-31 mission. The flight took place on April 14, 2025. Blue Origin identifies it as New Shepard's 11th human flight.

The six passengers were Sánchez, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyễn, Gayle King, Katy Perry and Kerianne Flynn. Bezos wasn't aboard. The official mission record gives the date and full crew, separate from the couple's later wedding coverage.

Sánchez and Bezos married in Venice on June 27, 2025. Her high-neck lace Dolce & Gabbana gown was inspired by Sophia Loren's wedding costume in Houseboat, the 1958 film with Cary Grant. Sánchez also described Bezos as artistic and involved in how the wedding should look. She was talking about the appearance of the event, not saying he'd seen her gown. That later account concerned the wedding as it took shape, after his joke about planning in 2023.

The photos here need their own context. This article's original 12 images include earlier public appearances by the couple and stock photography. They don't document the Venice ceremony, and the wedding details above aren't descriptions of those pictures.

The bridal stock image doesn't show Sánchez wearing her wedding gown. The stock yacht image isn't identified as Koru, either, so it can't establish which boat hosted the proposal. You can read the account of those events here, but these particular photos aren't visual evidence of them.
