Since 2020 mysterious mirrored monoliths have started appearing across the world.

The very first of these appeared in the Utah desert in November 2020. It was followed very quickly by others across the world.

    International Scrutiny

    Wikipedia

There has been phenomenal public interest in the structures from across the globe.

Some of them have been removed by environmentalists shortly after discovery. There has been a steady stream of tourists visiting others. And they are one of the most talked about subjects on social media.

    What They Look Like

    Quora

The monoliths are all metal, some more mirrored than others.

Some of them have lines carved into them. Several of them were embedded in the rock, others were left just resting on the surface.

    Where Do They Come From?

No one has yet managed to unravel the mystery of the monoliths.

We do know that some of them were created and set up by different people, copying or paying tribute to the original artist or prankster.

    Newest Monolith Colorado

It seems that whoever is behind them, they are not finished yet.

The latest mirrored monolith was found outside Bellvue, Colorado, on June 23rd.

    Always in Beautiful, Remote Places

There is one thing that all of the monoliths have in common – they are all in hard-to-reach, natural beauty spots.

Some of the locations include the Nevada desert, Pine Mountain in Atascadero and Dartmoor in England.

    Keeping Track

    YouTube

So far this year, only three monoliths have been discovered. One in Wales in March followed by Nevada earlier in June and then the latest one in Colorado.

Altogether, there have been 135 monoliths discovered across the world. 37 of them are in America.

    Tourist Spots

    Facebook

Many of the monliths have become tourist attractions as people come to marvel at their mysterious beauty.

Some of the monoliths have been taken down because of worries about the environmental impact of all the visitors. The monolith in Nevada has been taken to an undisclosed location by police citing public safety concerns.

    The First One Waited Awhile

Despite the popularity of the monoliths, they got off to a slow start.

The first monolith in Utah is estimated to have been in situ for around five years before it was discovered, meaning that it wasn’t a publicity stunt. That’s what makes it even more mysterious – no one knows its purpose.

    Mystery is Still Needed

    Reddit

In a world where so much has already been discovered and understood, we still need mystery.

The monoliths offer a rare chance to be awed and mystified in our technology-laden society and this is one of the reasons why they are so popular.
