Jim Carrey’s Friends Are Worried about His Reclusive Lifestyle after Ditching Hollywood

Over the years, Jim Carrey has gone from the most famous comedian in the world to a painter, from a beloved actor to a conspiracy theorist, and almost everything in between.

The world has been watching Carrey closely for decades, but there’s been far less information since he’s more or less become a recluse in recent years. However, when he emerged from his home to attend his own 62nd birthday party in January 2024, his friends reported that the star is not quite himself.

Jim Carrey’s Long and Illustrious Career

Carrey started out as a stand-up comedian toward the end of the 1980s, and by the beginning of the 1990s, he had become a breakout star.

Between Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, and, of course, The Mask, Jim Carrey was one of the biggest names in Hollywood comedy in the 1990s.

Continuing Success for Carrey

And his career didn’t stop with the turn of the century. In fact, some might argue the actor became even more famous in the early 2000s with films such as Bruce Almighty, Liar Liar, and The Grinch.

So, by the time the 2010s rolled around, Jim Carrey was wildly famous and could essentially star in any movie of his choosing.

Jim Carrey Gets Serious

And while he did still star in several comedies, Carrey took this opportunity to focus on more serious roles and passion projects.

He even opened up about his struggle with depression and participated in several interviews explaining what depression is like for him in the hopes of helping others through this challenging experience.

The Jim Carrey Debate

Jim Carrey also became far more outspoken in the press about his personal, spiritual, and political beliefs, including his distrust in vaccinations and his support of socialism.

And although some people agree with Carrey’s opinions, others don’t see eye to eye with and some have even said that the comedian has essentially gone crazy.

Jim Carrey Is “Taking a Break” from Acting

In 2022, although Carrey didn’t officially retire from acting, he told the world that he would be “taking a break”

The superstar has since been spending his time away from the public eye in Hawaii, where he spends a great deal of time alone working on his art.

Jim Carrey’s Famous Artwork

Carrey’s artwork has also recently made headlines as he portrays his controversial opinions with canvas and paint.

But to Carrey, his art isn’t just a political statement; it’s who he truly is. In fact, in an interview with ArtNet he said, “Making art in general is not really a choice,” and “I’m being painted and I’m being expressed and I’m being created, and there’s little me involved.”

Carrey’s Ever Changing Looks

Throughout Carrey’s adult life, he has tried on many different looks. From short hair and clean shaven to burly beards and long flowing locks, some argue that Jim’s look is often dependent on his mental state.

However, there is no real evidence to support this theory. But now, Jim apparently has long hair again and some people wonder if he is once again struggling with depression.

The Birthday Party

The most recent rumors surrounding Jim Carrey’s mental state started after the superstar attended his own 62nd birthday party in West Hollywood.

Sources Report that Jim Carrey Is Taking a Beating

An anonymous source told the press after the birthday party that Jim has “had some seriously rough moments in these past few years,” and that “he tends to self-isolate and lock himself away.”

The source also noted that at the party, it was clear that “he’s taken a beating, both physically and mentally!” and his friends are quite worried about Jim.

Some Say It’s Carrey’s Love Life that’s Getting Him Down

Over the years, Jim Carrey has been divorced twice, experienced a broken engagement, and had several failed relationships.

The anonymous source believes his current lack of a romantic partnership may be part of the problem, saying, “He’s such a vulnerable soul!”

What’s Next for Jim Carrey?

Although the rumors are certainly flying, Jim Carrey hasn’t spoken to the press about his current mental health status or his quiet life in Hawaii.

And although a source has reported that his friends are worried, at this point in time, it’s still speculation. Carrey, while likely different than he was in the 90s, may be thriving in his art studio by the beach.
