Over the years, Jim Carrey has gone from the most famous comedian in the world to a painter, from a beloved actor to a conspiracy theorist, and almost everything in between.

The world has been watching Carrey closely for decades, but there’s been far less information since he’s more or less become a recluse in recent years. However, when he emerged from his home to attend his own 62nd birthday party in January 2024, his friends reported that the star is not quite himself.

Jim Carrey’s Long and Illustrious Career

Carrey started out as a stand-up comedian toward the end of the 1980s, and by the beginning of the 1990s, he had become a breakout star.

Between Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, and, of course, The Mask, Jim Carrey was one of the biggest names in Hollywood comedy in the 1990s.

And his career didn’t stop with the turn of the century. In fact, some might argue the actor became even more famous in the early 2000s with films such as Bruce Almighty, Liar Liar, and The Grinch.

Jim Carrey Gets Serious

And while he did still star in several comedies, Carrey took this opportunity to focus on more serious roles and passion projects.

He even opened up about his struggle with depression and participated in several interviews explaining what depression is like for him in the hopes of helping others through this challenging experience.

The Jim Carrey Debate

Jim Carrey also became far more outspoken in the press about his personal, spiritual, and political beliefs, including his distrust in vaccinations and his support of socialism.

But to Carrey, his art isn’t just a political statement; it’s who he truly is. In fact, in an interview with ArtNet he said, “Making art in general is not really a choice,” and “I’m being painted and I’m being expressed and I’m being created, and there’s little me involved.”

Carrey’s Ever Changing Looks

Throughout Carrey’s adult life, he has tried on many different looks. From short hair and clean shaven to burly beards and long flowing locks, some argue that Jim’s look is often dependent on his mental state.

However, there is no real evidence to support this theory. But now, Jim apparently has long hair again and some people wonder if he is once again struggling with depression.
