Fans of Lisa Marie Presley will be pleased to find out that her daughter, Riley Keough, is releasing her memoir posthumously, per Us Weekly.

Many fans had initial doubts that the memoir would ever be published when news broke that the star had passed. However, Riley has taken to the tabloids to put minds at ease. Here’s what you need to know about the release and details.

Unfortunately, Lisa Marie Presley — daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley — died on January 12th, 2023 at age 54.

Riley’s announcement of the memoir’s release came just a year later, perhaps as a way to honor her mother’s passing. “I’m honored to help put my mother’s book out,” Riley confirmed on her Instagram profile.

When news broke about the star’s death, many took to the internet to speculate about possible causes.

Us Weekly was able to put an investigative journalist on the case, revealing in July 2023 that Lisa Marie Presley died as a result of a small bowel obstruction. This information was found in her finalized autopsy report.

While many celebrities opt to ghostwrite memoirs (or, have them written on their behalf as if it is them writing), Lisa Marie Presley did write her own memoir, according to Us Weekly.

Per Us Weekly, she began the process before she passed, and was completed over an undetermined time frame prior to its final editing steps.

The synopsis continues, bringing fans to the edge of their seats: “Before her death in 2023, she had been working on a raw, riveting, one-of-a-kind memoir for years.”

“(Lisa Marie) record(ed) countless hours of breathtakingly vulnerable tape, which has been put on the page by her daughter, Riley Keough.”

The world of ghostwriting and celebrity memoirs can get a bit confusing. However, Lisa Marie did start the memoir writing process, organizing her experiences and preparing to publish.

After her death, Riley Keough continued the process, referencing tapes of past conversations that Lisa Marie had made. She then finished the publishing and release steps.

Riley Keough is known as Lisa Marie’s daughter to many. Her father is Lisa Marie Presley’s ex-husband, Danny Keough.

Riley has also been formally named as the sole trustee of Lisa Marie’s estate, per Us Weekly. She concluded the battle over the estate in May of 2023, winning over Priscilla who had filed against Riley.

After Priscilla Presley started the legal battle, Riley Keough contested her appeal to the court — requesting that her mother’s will be kept as-is.

The court ruled in Riley’s favor, naming her the sole trustee. They awarded Priscilla Presley 1 million dollars, and named Finley and Harper as sub-trustees once they turn 18 years of age.

With so much tabloid noise swirling, many have wondered why Riley would choose to publish the memoir in the event of her mother’s death.

Riley released a statement just after the announcement, directly addressing concerns. “Few people had the opportunity to know who my mom really was,” she told the Associated Press.

“I was lucky to have had that opportunity, and working on preparing her autobiography for publication has been a privilege, albeit a bittersweet one,” Keough told Us Weekly.

“I’m so excited to share my mom now, at her most vulnerable and most honest, and in doing so, I hope that readers come to love my mom as much as I did,” she concluded.
